Wayne Simmonds – Had surgery to repair broken left index finger. Recovery time is 4-6 weeks.

Matt Carle – Had surgery to repair torn stomach muscle. Recovery time is 4-6 weeks.

Claude Giroux – Had surgery on his right wrist to repair torn cartilage and surgery on his left wrist to remove bone spurs. Recovery time is 6 weeks.

Kimmo Timonen – Will have surgery next week to remove a disc fragment from his lower back. Full recovery is expected in 8-10 weeks.

James van Riemsdyk – Will have surgery next week to repair a torn labrum in his right hip. Recovery time is 6 weeks.

Our goal is to gather as many fans together so show support for a player that embodied what it means to be a Philadelphia Flyer, and a man who will undoubtedly have his name enshrined in the Hockey Hall of Fame when it is all said and done.

Our goal is to reach 1,167 followers on Twitter, and 698 followers on Facebook. Once those two goals are achieved with the help of you, the fan, we will post a special status on our Facebook page to help decide (at random) who will win the jersey.

As expected, the Flyers General Manager was disappointed in the outcome, but he knows this team has a bright future.  Holmgren touched up on many topics, such as Ilya Bryzgalov, Chris Pronger’s status, Kimmo Timonen, Matt Carle and Jake Voracek’s contract situation, Claude Giroux and several other topics.  Paul Holmgren also talked about the CBA and Kimmo Timonen, all while wearing an orange tie with bicycles on it, the irony.

We didn’t want it to happen. After seeing our troops completely embarrass the “face” of the NHL in Round 1, we were all “flying” high (for an intentional lack of a better word).

“The Devils?,” we all thought. “Bring on the Rangers in the Conference Finals.” We were confident.

After the Flyers’ dramatic OT victory in Game 1, how could we not knock out the New Jersey Devils. I mean, come on, they almost lost to the Florida Panthers in 7 games. We have this in the bag, right?

Wrong. Wrong. Wrong.

As much as the Philadelphia fanbase was overlooking the Devils, our rivals from up the Turnpike were reveling in that underdog role. They were salivating at the opportunity to take out the “Comeback Kids” and completely knock them off their high horse.

I’m not going to resort to hockey analysis mode here. You can watch the footage from Bryz’s wasted effort in Game 2, or Ilya Kovalchuk’s triumphant return in Game 3, to an eerily similar (to Game 5)performance from the Flyers in Game 4.

Factor in our superstar Claude Giroux getting suspended, of course, and the dominos just continued to fall.

I don’t know about everyone else, but it felt like the Devils completely sucked the life out of this series. They played to their strengths, against our weaknesses, and frankly embarrassed us on a national stage.

I’m upset the Flyers lost, don’t get me wrong. But I’m more frustrated with the way we lost. There was no heart, no effort, no JAM, no leadership, no fire, and no will to win.

The Devils wanted it more, and in the playoffs, the hungrier team always wins.

The night the Flyers get eliminated and the following day when it all sinks in are the two worst days of the year for me. All of the time, emotion, money, passion, (the list goes on) you as a fan pour into this team, starting in September, is suddenly taken away from you.

The last thing I ever want to hear after nights like tonight is “There’s always next year”. Those are the toughest words to swallow when you are so emotionally invested in a team.

But I know damn right that I’ll be in line to purchase my tickets to Game 1 of the regular season next October. I’ll be somewhere in the crowd going absolutely insane with 20,000 of the rest of you with newfound ambitions that “This could be our year.”

That is our job as fans in this great city of Philadelphia. We wear our hearts on our sleeves and we bleed the colors of our teams.

As much as I want to thank the Flyers for another enjoyable season, I know the team is appreciative of what we bring to the stadium on a nightly basis.

We’re out of the playoffs, yes. But we’ll get right back up and be ready to bring the noise again next season.

The Flyers have a lot to work on, and they know this.  In fact, the Flyers did not have practice today, but they did have a team meeting.  The Flyers are a team that hasn’t played their style of hockey all series, tonight they hope they can find it. The Wells Fargo Center will be rocking for game 5, the Flyers need to feed off of that energy early.

The Flyers are still getting outworked and out-muscled in every game in this series, if the comeback kids want to live up to their name, they have to fix that.  The orange and black look sluggish, they are second to every puck and rarely held the puck in the offensive zone for an extended period of time.  Whether the Flyers are just getting beat, or they are injured, this is not the Flyers team that we all know.

The New Jersey Devils are playing a strong defensvie system, that the Flyers simply can not figure out.  The Flyers are getting flushed away from the puck as the Devils are throwing two guys on the puck carrier, giving them a limited number of passes to make.  If the Flyers want to come back and win this series, they have to adjust and out work the Devils.

Here is something to look for in the Flyers must win situation:

After watching games 2 and 3, the Flyers are simply getting outworked.  The Flyers are getting tied up once they are near the puck and they are falling for the Devils system. Philadelphia needs to get back to their game, and quick.  Game 4 is on Sunday night at 7:30pm, the Flyers have to take that game as a “must win” situation.

The Flyers can not fall into their “annoying” style of play in game 3.  The series is now a best of 5, and the next two games are in New Jersey.  The Flyers are a strong road team, but they have to play a full sixty minutes.  Game one they played 40+, game two they played 20.

The Flyers have a few problems that they need to fix, but they are just minor ones.  As we all know, Philadelphia is a much more talented squad, they just have to go out there and prove it.  I think the poor display of hockey that happened on Tuesday night will give the Flyers a nice kick in the pants.  The series will begin to get more physical, and the games will now get tighter.
