Report: Claude Giroux Era Begins Thursday
- Updated: January 15, 2013
According to several league sources, Claude Giroux will be named the 19th captain in Philadelphia Flyers franchise history on Thursday.
This special event is expected to take place on that evening, when the Flyers will be holding an open practice at the Wells Fargo Center. Admission with ticket is free, but according to Sam Carchidi, all tickets have been sold out.
However, fans will be able to watch practice on their TVs on CSN or via online live stream.
It should not come as a surprise to fans that Giroux is the man who will be wearing the “C” for the Flyers. Not only has he gained the support of fans, but teammates such as Scott Harnell and Danny Briere call him a “great leader” and that he is “ready to be captain”.
At the end of the day, the Flyers management will have made a good selection for who will be the face of the franchise. Giving a young, elite talent and a strong leader like Claude Giroux the “C” will benefit the team for many years to come.
